The first half of the 2023 MLB season is officially in the books, with All-Star festivities getting underway Monday night in Seattle. First up: the annual Home Run Derby. This year's contest will feature eight players in four head-to-head matchups:
- (1) Luis Robert Jr. vs. (8) Adley Rutschman
- (2) Pete Alonso vs. (7) Julio Rodriguez
- (3) Mookie Betts vs. (6) Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
- (4) Adolis Garcia vs. (5) Randy Arozarena
The favorite going into the event is two-time winner Pete Alonso, but the New York Mets slugger will have his work cut out for him, as he will be taking on Julio Rodriguez in front of his home crowd. Rodriguez didn't win the 2022 Home Run Derby, but he arguably put on the best show in what was a national coming-out party for the eventual 2022 AL Rookie of the Year. The event starts at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Which brings us to today's quiz of the day. MLB held its inaugural Home Run Derby event at the 1985 MLB All-Star Game, and there have been 37 winners since then. So with that in mind, how many of theses prolific sluggers can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
